TMII 51st Anniversary: 1000 Dancers Break MURI Record

JAKARTA Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) celebrates its 51st anniversary with a massive cultural event. The management chooses “Non-stop Cultural Preservation” as the main theme for this year. They present a spectacular dance performance called Gelora Nusantara to mark this milestone. This performance involves 1,000 dancers from all 34 provinces across Indonesia. Consequently, the event successfully secures a spot in the Museum Rekor Indonesia / MURI (Indonesian World Records Museum).

Acting Director of TMII, Ratri Paramita, leads this ambitious project to showcase Indonesia’s diversity. She organizes the celebration over five days to accommodate more visitors. For example, the festivities take place on two consecutive weekends in April : Saturday (18/4), Sunday (19/4), Saturday (24/4), Sunday (25/4), and Monday (26/4). The management sets a high target of 100,000 visitors during this period. Therefore, they offer various interactive activities to attract the public.

A Historic Achievement for National Culture

The Gelora Nusantara performance creates a new record for the most regional dances in a single medley. Dancers perform traditional movements from the western to the eastern parts of the country. For instance, the audience enjoys Tari Bungong Jeumpa from Aceh and Tari E Mambo Simbo from Papua. Furthermore, the show ends with a colossal performance of the Kicir-Kicir dance. This final act symbolizes national unity through harmony and movement.

This achievement serves as a vital milestone for cultural promotion in Indonesia. Ratri explains that preservation requires a continuous and lively process. Thus, TMII works closely with regional pavilions and dance teacher forums. This collaboration transforms the show into an educational tool for the general public. Additionally, the event helps the younger generation connect with their heritage more easily.

Transforming TMII into a Modern Cultural Hub

The Indonesian government continues to revitalize TMII to strengthen national identity. Vice President Corporate Secretary of Injourney, Yudhistira Setiawan, emphasizes the park’s role as a showcase of Indonesia. The team improves the physical facilities and digital services to provide a better experience. Meanwhile, they maintain the original spirit of the park as a cultural ecosystem. As a result, TMII becomes a relevant destination for all social groups.

Commercial Director of Injourney Destination Management, Gistang Richard Panutur, adds that culture drives sustainable tourism. He believes that authentic experiences improve the welfare of local communities. Moreover, TMII functions as a space for interaction, learning, and empowerment. The management hopes this anniversary inspires more people to love Indonesian culture.
