JAKARTA – Jakarta MOVIN and the famous band MALIQ & D’Essentials have joined forces to create an exciting new musical titled Senja Teduh Pelita. This spectacular show opens today during the school holiday season. Audiences can watch the performance at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) in Jakarta until July 12. This original musical tells a fascinating science-fiction story about the Pasukan Pelita. These characters try to rebuild the world after the collapse of human civilization. Therefore, the story invites viewers to reflect on the relationship between humans, nature, and the future.
From a Creative Spark to the Grand Stage
The director and producer, Nuya Susantono, began discussing this project in 2023. She wanted to bring the timeless music of MALIQ & D’Essentials into a theatrical format. Nuya believes that this music connects different generations and will live on for many years. After the media preview on Friday (July 3rd, 2026), she expressed her deep gratitude for the successful first show. Furthermore, she hopes that the Indonesian public will enjoy the production and that this work will boost the country’s musical theater industry.

A Stark Vision of the Future
The musical takes the audience into a dark future world. Climate change, bad energy management, pandemics, and global wars have destroyed human society. Consequently, the human population drops quickly, while clean water and fertile land become extremely rare. Eventually, all adults disappear from the earth. As a result, nine children must face this broken world alone. Nuya found inspiration for this adventurous plot in nine albums by MALIQ & D’Essentials. She listened to the deep layers of their songs about the earth, human struggles, and life choices.
Giving Songs a Visual Home
The show features around twenty popular songs from the band, including hits like Himalaya, Aurora, Jalan Pulang, and tracks from their new album Begini Begitu. The actors use these melodies to express their emotional journeys on stage. Angga Puradiredja, representing MALIQ & D’Essentials, stated that their songs have found a beautiful new home. He explained that people can now see, feel, and experience the music in a completely new way. He also believes that true art should evolve past its original form.
To bring this world to life, a massive team of 32 actors, including 11 children, performs on stage. In addition, more than 200 creative professionals work behind the scenes. They combine beautiful stage design, smart multimedia, colorful lighting, unique costumes, dynamic choreography, and powerful music. Ultimately, this hard work creates an immersive experience that completely engages the audience from start to finish.
