YOGYAKARTA – The beautiful Prambanan Temple Tourism Park welcomes music lovers once again for the annual Prambanan Jazz Festival (PJF) 2026. This special event marks the twelfth year of the festival, which successfully merges live music, rich culture, and world heritage into an unforgettable experience. This year, the organizers selected Celebrate the Joy as the main theme. Festival founder Anas Syahrul Alimi explained that a festival must create true happiness for every single attendee. Therefore, the team creates an inviting environment that feels like a welcoming home where people can relax and enjoy life together.
Over the past twelve years, the management worked incredibly hard to keep a perfect balance between popular music stars and deep jazz roots. Consequently, the festival preserves its unique musical identity while staying highly relevant for modern audiences. For instance, the organizers introduced a creative music program named “Playing Jazz.” This specific program allows artists from various musical genres to explore jazz melodies through their own unique style. Furthermore, about 63 percent of the performers this year maintain strong connections to jazz elements, ensuring that the festival keeps its musical core alive.
Curating for Future Sustainability
Music Curator Shadu Rasidi also shared his professional thoughts about the selection process. He firmly believes that a great festival needs a strong identity to survive and grow over time. Therefore, the curation team carefully balanced artistic quality with long-term survival during their planning phase. As a direct result of this strategy, the festival gains a stronger foundation each year to showcase deep jazz elements to the audience.
Besides bringing wonderful music, the festival actively boosts national tourism. Huge international events like this attract thousands of tourists, extend their stay in the city, and generate substantial income for the local community. For example, Commercial Director of InJourney Destination Management, Gistang Panutur, stated that high-quality events strengthen Indonesia’s tourism appeal. He noted that music tourism and sports tourism attract both local and international travelers. Last year, the festival attracted over 76,000 visitors during its three-day run. Thus, the team remains highly optimistic about achieving an even larger crowd this year.
Driving the Local Economy
Additionally, the financial rewards reach far beyond the festival gates. Local hotels, transportation providers, creative industries, and small shop owners enjoy direct benefits from the three-day gathering. Therefore, the event serves as a powerful economic engine for the entire region. InJourney Destination Management hopes that the Prambanan area will continue to grow as a world-class cultural destination. Simultaneously, they prioritize safety, comfort, and heritage preservation for future generations.
The three-day festival presents an amazing lineup of global and local talent. On the first day, famous pop-rock band Michael Learns to Rock (MLTR) and South Korean group Xdinary Heroes thrilled the audience as main performers. Meanwhile, Indonesian acts like Trisum, Barasuara, and Lomba Sihir added great energy to the stage. On the second day, global star NIKI and world-class jazz pianist Joey Alexander took over the headlines. They shared the stage with legendary Indonesian groups like Kahitna, GIGI, and Letto, creating a beautiful bridge across different musical eras.
