Rio Clappy Releases Debut Album Tutur Hayat to Share Life

Rio Clappy

JAKARTA – Indonesian musician Rio Clappy officially introduced his debut album, Tutur Hayat, through an album listening session. This album contains 10 songs, and it summarizes Rio’s life journey, personal experiences, and emotions over five years of creative work.

Furthermore, the album offers more than just stories about love and heartbreak. It invites listeners to explore various phases of human life. For instance, Rio weaves falling in love, loss, memories, prayers, farewells, and death into stories that closely relate to daily life.

Rio started the album creation process back in 2021 with the song Alamo. Naturally, this long journey gave him the opportunity to explore different musical approaches until he found a voice that truly represented his vision. In fact, He shared that he spent around five years thinking, feeling, and putting those experiences into these songs. Moreover, he strongly believes that storytelling forms a basic part of human life, so he uses his music to share these personal feelings with his listeners.

However, finding the right musical identity was not easy. Initially, Rio worked on the album with arranger & musician Denny Chasmala. Yet, he eventually stopped that collaboration because the arrangements did not match his desired style. Therefore, he continued the project with Vega Antares, a well-known additional guitar of Dewa 19, who shared a vision closer to Rio’s own musical references. As a result, this new partnership became a key turning point in finding the sound he wanted.

In addition, Vega’s understanding of iconic bands like The Beatles and Dewa 19 greatly helped the creative process. Meanwhile, Rio’s own guitar playing plays a major role in shaping the songs, such as in Aksi, where an electric guitar suddenly interrupts the composition.

Interestingly, The Beatles heavily inspired the overall flow of Tutur Hayat, especially in how the songs transition into one another. Specifically, Rio drew ideas from Abbey Road, the legendary album known for its connected tracks like Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight, and The End. Furthermore, he found inspiration in the smooth transition between Merekah and Gulana in Bilal Indrajaya’s EP Purnama. Consequently, these influences encouraged Rio to build a seamless listening experience where every track forms part of a complete journey. Listeners can also feel strong Beatles vibes in Alamo and Janji Bahagia, as both tracks feature acoustic guitar strumming that closely resembles John Lennon’s playing style.

Ultimately, Rio doesn’t merely present a collection of songs in Tutur Hayat. Instead, he crafts a meaningful story about life through a deeply personal approach, showcasing his true journey and identity.
