JAKARTA – Social media platforms completely change how young listeners discover fresh sounds today. Interestingly, Gen Z audiences now heavily embrace genres like jazz, soul, bossa nova, samba rock, and eastern funky beats. This digital trend directly boosts the popularity of senior musicians who dominated these genres decades ago. Consequently, these veteran artists find vibrant new stages and enthusiastic crowds. Specifically, jazz musicians successfully reintroduce their melodies into everyday lifestyle habits. For example, music lovers eagerly anticipate performances from Sydney Reunion at Gedebage Jazz Festival International 2026.
Indra Lesmana pioneered Sydney Reunion to bring a fresh energy into the jazz community. He collaborates with three prominent Australian jazz musicians, including bassist Steve Hunter, saxophonist Dale Barlow, and drummer Andrew Andy Gander. This group represents a beautiful musical reunion for Indra and his old friends. They initially shared a musical path during the early 1980s at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Today, this project creates a cross-musical energy with international experience. Therefore, the band transforms these shared memories into a highly progressive and improvisational music style.
A Historic Homecoming in Bandung
This famous jazz fusion project will soon grace the stage at the Gedebage Jazz Festival International 2026. Music fans in East Bandung will experience a wonderful wave of nostalgia. Previously, the band performed at the Sydney Manly Jazz Festival and launched their album at the iconic Sydney Opera House in late 2024. Bringing this project to Bandung brings immense joy to Indra Lesmana. During a recent interview, he explained that jazz fusion maintains its relevance among young people because music naturally transcends generation gaps. Furthermore, jazz fusion possesses a fluid character since it connects smoothly with various other musical styles.
A Spectacular Lineup for Every Generation
The festival organizers promise an amazing lineup that will invite the audience into a nostalgic journey. Attendees will watch unique collaborations that rarely appear at other festivals. For instance, the event features Syaharani with the Bandung Jazz Orchestra, and Saung Angklung Udjo alongside Barry Likumahuwa. In addition, audiences will enjoy Erwin Gutawa’s Tribute to January Christy and the Krakatau Reunion. International artists also join the celebration. Takahiro Miyazaki comes from Japan, Jazzbois travels from Hungary, Julian Chan represents Malaysia, and Andrea Cui arrives from Singapore. Meanwhile, cross-genre acts like Maliq & D’Essentials and Dewa 19 strengthen the inclusive spirit of the festival.
The historic event now expands into a massive international music festival in East Bandung. This year, organizers will host the celebration for four consecutive days from June 25 to June 28, 2026. The entire festival will take place at the beautiful outdoor area of Sawarga Courtyard inside Summarecon Mall Bandung.
