Konferensi Musik Indonesia

JAKARTA – The Ministry of Culture of Indonesia proudly presents the Konferensi Musik Indonesia / KMI (Indonesian Music Conference) 2026 in Makassar, South Sulawesi. Officials schedule this major cultural event from late October to early November. Furthermore, Minister of Culture of Indonesia Fadli Zon leads this effort to create a strong national music ecosystem. Consequently, this grand program aims to make domestic music the true master in its own country. The minister wants the nation to host its own art instead of just buying foreign products.

Uniting Local and Global Talents

Additionally, the conference expects to gather around 700 music delegates from various regions and international backgrounds. Hardinansyah Putra Siji, the Indonesian Music Coordinator, emphasizes the importance of this gathering. Meanwhile, the organizers plan to host around 20 panel discussions. These panels feature industry experts and government leaders. Moreover, the committee provides a grand stage for 50 to 100 bands to connect with global producers. Specifically, the team invites eight top local bands to perform their songs at the historic Benteng Rotterdam every night. During the day, attendees join important meetings at the Claro Hotel.

Boosting the Eastern Hub

Therefore, the government picks Makassar as the central location for this year. The city effectively connects the music groups across Eastern Indonesia, including Papua, Manado, and Maluku. In addition, Makassar City Mayor Munafri Arifuddin fully supports the event to grow the local creative economy. As a result, the city secures its place as a major contributor to the national arts scene. The event clearly brings fresh energy to the local music industry.

Shaping the Future of Music

Besides live shows, KMI 2026 tackles serious business challenges head-on. The forums openly discuss royalty payments, copyright rules, and the ethics of artificial intelligence in art. Furthermore, leaders explore better pay for music workers and promote fair treatment for women within the business. Ultimately, the Ministry expects these team efforts to push traditional and modern Indonesian music onto the global stage. Overall, this conference empowers the nation to protect and share its rich cultural history.
